Heartgard for cats is only available with a veterinary prescription.  When you place your order simply fill in your veterinarian’s contact details and the store will contact them on your behalf for the required paperwork.  If you already have the prescription you can of course fax or post it in.  Once the RX is dealt with your order will be shipped out to you.

If you would prefer to buy your cat’s heartworm medicine without a prescription we suggest Revolution or Advantage Multi as these can be shipped to the US from Canada where they are sold as over the counter pet treatments.

Using Heartgard Cat’s Heartworm Medicine

To ensure the full dose is absorbed it is essential that your cat digests each Heartgard chewable fully.  This means they should be broken up before ingesting, either by the cat or yourself.  With such a low dose of ivermectin used, Heartgard are safe to us on all breeds and weights of cat from six weeks of age.  Even nursing, pregnant and breeding cats may be safely treated using Heartgard chewables.

The product comes in two doses.  One for smaller cats under 5 lbs, and another for larger cats between 5 and 15 lbs.  Always ensure you have the correct pack size for your pet’s weight, to ensure the product remains both safe and effective.

As with all monthly heartworm preventatives the only way to guarantee their success is to use every month, year round.  Your vet may suggest a test for the presence of the parasite if you have not used such a preventative before, or if you skip a few months of treatment.

Because Heartgard feline heartworm medicine is so tasty you shouldn’t have any trouble giving your pet their medicine.  But do keep an eye on them to ensure they have consumed the entire dose.
